Participants included in the study met the following criteria: 1) low back pain lasting for at least the last 3 months, 2) a documented [greater than or equal to] 5 points on a 10 cm visual analog scale for bothersomeness of low back pain at the time of screening and 3) between 18 and 65 years of age. Participants were blinded to the real and sham acupuncture treatments. The real acupuncture treatment group received real acupuncture 2 times a week, during a total of 12 sessions over 6 weeks. Are Poor Workspace Ergonomics Causing Radiologists Pain?
A lack of attention to workspace ergonomics could be to blame for radiologists’ musculoskeletal symptoms, including lower back pain, wrist pain, shoulder pain, neck pain, and headaches, according to a study to be presented at the ARRS 2010 Annual Meeting in San Diego, CA. “Over the past decade, radiologists’ workloads have increased dramatically,” said Anand M. Effectiveness of manual therapies: the UK evidence report
Conclusions: Spinal manipulation/mobilization is effective in adults for: acute, subacute, and chronic low back pain; migraine and cervicogenic headache; cervicogenic dizziness; manipulation/mobilization is effective for several extremity joint conditions; and thoracic manipulation/mobilization is effective for acute/subacute neck pain. The evidence is inconclusive for cervical manipulation/mobilization alone for neck pain of any duration, and for manipulation/mobilization for mid back pain, sciatica, tension-type headache, coccydynia, temporomandibular joint disorders, fibromyalgia, premenstrual syndrome, and pneumonia in older adults. Spinal manipulation is not effective for asthma and dysmenorrhea when compared to sham manipulation, or for Stage 1 hypertension when added to an antihyper…

When practiced by a certified provider, it is safe and patients often find it calming and relaxing. Animal and human studies have found a physiologic basis for acupuncture needling in that it affects the complex central and peripheral neurohormonal network. Although it is unclear whether acupuncture is beneficial over sham/placebo acupuncture, acupuncture care yields clinically relevant short- and long-term benefits for low back pain, knee osteoarthritis, chronic neck pain, and headache. The integration of acupuncture into a primary care setting also appears to be cost-effective. The practice of acupuncture in primary care requires rigorous training, financial discipline, and good communication sk… br

Scoliosis Back Pain
Scoliosis back pain is a great conundrum for dorsopathy patients, since this spinal curvature condition is often blamed for sourcing symptoms, yet treatments are rarely, if ever, successful. Scoliosis describes a spinal abnormality in which the patient suffers an atypical side to side curvature of the spine at one or more locations. Some patients have a single abnormal curve, generally referred to as a “C” curve, while others have 2 or more abnormal curves, generally referred to as an “S” curve.

Patient use and compliance with medical advice delivered by a web-based triage system in primary care
We studied a web-based triage system which was accessible to the general public in the Netherlands. In a retrospective analysis we investigated the type of complaints that were submitted and the kind of advice provided. Over a period of 15 months, 13,133 different people began using the web-based triage system and 3812 patients went right through the triage process to the end. The most frequent complaints were common cold symptoms, such as cough and a sore throat (22%), itch problems (13%), urinary complaints (12%), diarrhoea (10%), headache (8%) and lower back pain (8%). Most commonly, the system generated the advice to contact a doctor (85%) and in 15% of the cases the system provided fully automated, problem-tailored, self-care advice. A total of 192 patients participated in a prospecti…
