Experimentally induced low back pain from hypertonic saline injections into lumbar interspinous ligament and erector spinae muscle

Experimentally induced low back pain from hypertonic saline injections into lumbar interspinous ligament and erector spinae muscle
Abstract: Injection of hypertonic saline into back muscles or ligaments can induce acute low back pain (LBP). However, no study has systematically investigated pain characteristics from these structures. Further, induced muscle pain can change with stretching and contraction, which is problematic for studies into the effect of pain on sensorimotor control. However, it is unclear whether this occurs with experimental ligament pain. In separate sessions, 10 healthy volunteers received a single bolus injection of hypertonic (0.2ml, 5% NaCl) or isotonic saline (0.3ml, 0.9% NaCl) into L4/5 interspinous ligament, or hypertonic saline into the left paraspinal muscle. Pain intensity, size and duration were recorded, and a body chart was completed for each injection. Changes in pain intensity and s…

Directed attention alters the temporal activation patterns of back extensors during trunk flexion–extension in individuals with chronic low back pain
Abstract  In chronic low back pain patients (CLBP), neuromuscular and pain intensity have been identified as contributing factors in the disability of the individual. However, it is unclear whether pain intensity influences neuromuscular activation and if directed attention mediates this relationship. Thus, the purpose of this study was to determine the effect of directed attention in individuals with different pain intensities on back extensor activation profiles. Fifty-four CLBP patients were separated into either high- or low-pain groups. Surface electromyograms were recorded from back muscles while the subjects performed a trunk flexion motion for four different attention conditions. Pattern recognition and repeated measures ANOVAs were used to examine the effect of sex…

Curing Back Pain With Asanas
Back pain is one of the most frequent health problems in adults. About 8 out of 10 adults suffer from this problem one time or the other in their life. This may be due to muscle strain or spasm, sprains of ligaments (which attach bone to bone), joint problems or a “slipped disk.” The most common cause is lackluster lifestyle or using your back muscles in activities to which you are not used to. You get relief in back pain by doing following asanas if the pain is not due to any injury or other medical reasons.

Muscle functional magnetic resonance imaging and acute low back pain: a pilot study to characterize lumbar muscle activity asymmetries and examine the effects of osteopathic manipulative treatment
Conclusion: Collectively, this pilot work demonstrates the feasibility of mfMRI for quantification and localization of muscle abnormalities in patients with acute low back pain. Additionally, this pilot work provides insight into the mechanistic actions of OMT during acute LBP, as it suggests that it may attenuate muscle activity asymmetries of some of the intrinsic low back muscles. Chronic Pain in Your Lower Back - Core Causes and Alternative Health Treatment Benefits
A sore lower back (lumbago) might be expected if you strained your muscles, strained a ligament, or slipped a disc. Those causes of low back pain can occur when you use your back muscles in unfamiliar activities, like lifting or doing yard work. Underlying chronic back pain is a more complicated issue. Medical doctors sometimes recommend surgery, but sadly it works in only a small percentage of the patients. All chemical painkillers and drugs will bring short term relief but also poison your body with toxic materials. People who resort to a chiropractor, naturopath, homeopath, or massage therapist who go beyond the physical expression of pain will have the best results.

Back Pain - Causes of Lower Back Pain - Weak Muscles
With most adults experiencing lower back pain sometime during their life, it’s important to understand what cause back problems, what treatment is available and how these conditions can be avoided. A main cause of an aching back is weak back muscles. Overworked (strained) muscles, improper lifting, stress, physical activity, even a hard sneeze can cause discomfort and pain. Most of us are weekend warriors. During the week we sit in our cars commuting to work. Then we sit at a desk pounding the key board. Comes the weekend and we’re out on the golf links, playing tennis or any number of weekend activities. Monday morning rolls around and we can barely get out of bed! What happened?

Your Back Ache Should Be Treated

Your Back Ache Should Be Treated
Every day millions of people suffer what is best described as a back ache. Not the deep chronic back pain felt by many, but a slight ache or tightness in the lower back muscles. Usually, these aches just go away on their own. That’s the problem. They go away so nothing is done in response to the bodies warnings.
